LIBRARY

The development of literacy and enthusiasm for reading are actively supported in Jules Verne in many different ways. Our own library plays a central role: it has about 6,000 novels, storybooks, comics and non-fiction books for children and youth in French, Finnish and English.

Each class, including those of the very smallest play school children, visits the library once a week and all children are allowed to borrow a book for home reading. Reading books becomes a natural part of children’s everyday lives.

Weekly library visits often involve, depending on the age of the children, a story time by the teacher or reading a book independently.

In addition to our own library, students visit libraries in Helsinki’s central area (Rikhardinkatu and Oodi Central Library), which also have their own shelves for French-language children’s books and offer numerous activities for children.

In addition, active cooperation is carried out with the Library of the French Institute in Helsinki.
