PLAYSCHOOL

The French School Jules Verne is a primary school. It includes a playschool and an elementary school and welcomes pupils from age 2 to age 10. Our playschool is one of the private daycares in Helsinki City. Knowledge of the French language is not necessary in the beginning. The child’s mother tongue may be Finnish, Swedish or other.

In playschool, children are

divided by age groups

Toute petite section (TPS): 2 years

Petite section (PS): 3 years

Moyenne section (MS): 4 years

Grande section (GS): 5 years

This is cycle 1 of primary school:

the cycle of first learnings.

A day in playschool

The day begins with a welcome time with free games. Then all the children get together to begin the day with familiar rituals, songs, nursery rhymes. Activities are conducted in small groups with diverse situations, where playing holds a special place.

After each activity there is a quiet moment, during which the child can play freely in the play areas of the class or participate in story reading.

Sports activities are carried out on a daily basis. Children go out regardless of the weather.

After recess, it is lunch time and then time to rest. In the dormitory, everyone has his or her own little bed with linen brought from home. When they wake up, children get dressed, do a puzzle, read a picture book…

At the end of the day, the whole class gathers together to talk about the day.

Then it is time to go home or to the afternoon care while waiting for pick up.

A pedagogy adapted to young children

An organization by age group and by cycle

Every year, the children change groups and move to the next level. They are proud to show that they have grown.

Adapted pedagogical activities

Varied situations are proposed by teachers and assistants.

Regular exchanges with parents

Two to three times a year, meetings are held between parents and the teacher to talk about the child’s progress. This is an opportunity to show the parents the booklet, where their child’s learnings are recorded.

Continuity in the child’s schooling

Children can continue their education in the French School Jules Verne’s elementary school. They continue to evolve in a reassuring and secure environment.

The little extras

Small groups

No more than 21 pupils for three adults, in accordance with Finnish legislation (1 adult for every 7 children over 3 years old).

Outings whatever the weather

It is all about equipment!

Adaptation to the Finnish early childhood education program

As in Finnish kindergartens, parents, together with the teacher, develop for their child an Individual Early Childhood Education Plan (VASU). Teachers use this plan as a support for their work.
